Washington, DC – With the U.S. and Iran on the cusp of an historic nuclear deal, and opponents of any diplomatic resolution mobilizing to kill it, the National Iranian American Council (NIAC) is pleased to announce the formation of its new, sister organization committed to winning this important battle on Capitol Hill: NIAC Action.

NIAC Action is a 501(c)4 organization committed to protecting a nuclear deal, strengthening diplomacy and advancing peace between the U.S. and Iran through civic action, direct lobbying, and political mobilization.

“We have helped build an influential, organized Iranian-American community over the past decade and now it’s time to take the next step in our political journey,” said NIAC Action Executive Director Jamal Abdi. “No community has been impacted more by the U.S.-Iran standoff than Iranian Americans and we’re ready to put our talents and resources behind a historic opportunity for peace.”

NIAC Action will now lead and expand on NIAC’s previous advocacy activities, through direct lobbying and grassroots action. NIAC Action will also be able to endorse political candidates and organize political giving within the Iranian-American and pro-peace community in support of candidates.

Current NIAC supporters give a total average of over $1.4 million to political candidates per two-year election cycle. NIAC Action will organize that political giving so that it backs candidates working to advance peace, strengthen diplomacy, and build bridges between the American and Iranian people.

NIAC Action will launch nationwide with 30 grassroots chapters in key states and Congressional districts to ensure Congress hears the overwhelming public support for a nuclear deal and opposition to war with Iran. In Washington, NIAC Action’s team will engage in direct lobbying and education efforts on Capitol Hill to help win the vote to protect a deal.

In the longer term, NIAC Action will leverage the strength and resources of the Iranian-American community to strengthen U.S. diplomatic efforts to advance peace and human rights, promote greater openings for the American and the Iranian people, protect civil rights and opportunities for Iranian Americans at home, and help elect candidates who support these priorities

Under the expansion, NIAC will continue its work in providing analysis, education, and community engagement, as well pursue new opportunities like cultural exchanges.
